Since the 18.12.09 ROBIN WOOD-Activists squat several trees in the Gählerpark in Hamburg Altona to impende the contruction of a heating pipeline for the planned coal power plant Hamburg Moorburg, which would mean the loss of the trees in the park. The company proposing the pipeline is Vattenfall, a Swedish corporation.

U.S.: Activists stop blasting on Coal River Mountain

Early on Saturday morning two concerned citizens, Dea Goblirsch and Nick Martin, locked down to a drill rig on Coal River Mountain's Bee Tree mountaintop removal site, effectively stopping blasting. USA: Medically defensible energy policy on climate: phase out Coal

A new report released November 2009 by Physicians for Social Responsibility (USA) - 'Coal's Assault on Human Health' - details the devastating impacts of coal on the human body, including respiratory, cardiovascular and neurological effects. A chapter is also devoted to coal's impact on global warming. The report makes substantial policy recommendations that detail why coal power should be phased out and replaced with renewable energy sources.

Climate protest disrupts ALP Conference

Climate protesters have disrupted the annual conference of the NSW Labor Party, demanding the government scrap plans for more coal fired power stations in the state.

Three members of the climate action group Rising Tide Newcastle have stolen the floor during a speech by NSW Premier Nathan Rees. The protesters have unfurled a large banner reading “Coal Kills! Scrap the new power stations”, and have disrupted the Premier's speech by calling out loudly about the climate change impacts of the NSW governments addiction to the coal industry.

CHICAGO--Over 450 people braved rain and unusually cold weather
to attend Chicago's largest International Day of Climate Action event
-- a mass rally, protest march and blockade of the controversial Fisk
coal-fired power station in the Pilsen community in Chicago.



Chicago activists were determined to send a strong climate message to
President Obama from his hometown as he and the US government prepares
for the December Climate talks in Copenhagen:  End Coal!  Clean Energy
