Rising Tide makes every day Earth Day

RT rocks E-dayRT rocks E-day

Last week, Rising Tide rocked it. While the world celebrated Earth Day with corporate sponsored green hoopla, we and communities around the globe commemorated the anniversary of the BP Oil Spill with fierce direct actions across the world.

While Obama gives away thousands of acres of western public land to the coal industry, Rising Tide North America organized a thousand-person march in the belly of the beast.  Activists swarmed the Dept. of Interior and occupied the building in booming protest. While coal plants continue to burn up our atmosphere and poison our communities, Rising Tide Chicago occupied one of the biggest coal plants in the United States.

While the natural gas “frackers” continue to drill and turn communities into shattered gaslands, Rising Tide North Texas marched and shut down Ft. Worth-based Range Resources offices. While oil companies turn the Pacific Northwest into a dirty energy corridor for tar sands, Portland Rising Tide and Wild Idaho Rising Tide organize and fight back. While corporations run rampant over our democracy, our economy and our world, activists in the United Kingdom, New Zealand and Finland join us in standing up against the dominance and greed of the energy industries.

We’re building an international direct action movement for climate justice. Whether it’s organizing a community bike shop, blockading a gas station, occupying a mine site or “regulatory” office, or fighting a new coal plant, it’s up to all of us taking action in our own communities to bring down the juggernaut of unaccountable energy industries, whether fossil fuel, nuclear, or other false-solution stand-ins.

Rising Tide doesn’t ask for permission and we don’t wait around for green holidays to do something. We make Earth Day every day.

Thanks for all you do,
