Nuke power is not a solution to climate change

If you are under the impression that nuclear power will stop greenhouse gas emissions enough to stop climate change, you are wrong simply because energy production from power plants is not much (about 30% globally) compared to other sources which nuclear power would not effect like cars, trucks, ships, and polluting industries.

Other reasons:
- nuclear power creates emissions in mining, transport and processing
- nuclear power plants emit GHG
- nuclear power creates intractable waste
- nuclear power is expensive and wouldn't exist without subsidies
- nuclear reactors are dangerous, and accidents frequent (i'm not talking about chernobyls. every nuclear plant in the world has leaked radioactive material into the environment
- it is a slow response, taking years to get operational
- nuclear power, if used to replace coal, will soon deplete all the uranium in the world (estimate range form 40 years to just 4 depending on the grade of U the estimate is based upon)
- many countries using nuclear power just can't seem to resist the temptation to nuclear weapons.
- nuclear power exacerbates already existing issues about waste disposal and social justice, disposal sites invariably being sited on the land of indigenous people

even if you dispute all these facts, you still have to admit that no one wants new nuclear power plants. the recent report published by the IAEA shows this. a mere 10% of those surveyed thought climate change justified nuclear power.

if governments put that subsidy money that has created nuclear power into EFFICIENCY first, then new solar, wind, thermal and other alternative technologies to coal, then we will see a lasting difference.

a good recent report into nuclear power for Australia is here:
