Addressing climate change is a "moral obligation," U.N. General Assembly President Srgjan Kerim said Monday in the first U.N. climate meeting in New York.
"The science is clear; it is unequivocal," Kerim said at U.N. headquarters while announcing "Responding to Climate Change" as the theme for this year's general debate kicking off Tuesday. "Beyond the impact on ecosystems, economics and communities everywhere, we have a moral obligation to our fellow human beings."
Monday's meeting was the largest-ever assembly of world leaders on the issue and will serve as a guide for climate change-related negotiations scheduled to take place in Bali, Indonesia, in December, Kerim said in a news release. The Bali meeting will consider action on how climate change issues can be addressed after the 2012 expiration of the Kyoto Protocol, the current global framework for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Finding solutions to climate change issues must be global, Kerim said.
"What we need now is ... a clear vision of the way forward and a strategy to get us there together," he said.

Climate Change is Moral Obligation- TO what EXPLOIT THE MOON??
Again the words Moral Obligation comes forth from the authorities.
The last time I heard that in reference to climate change was when Richard Branson wheeled out Stephen Hawkins prior to a jaunt in space- who stated firmly and unequivocally that there was a MORAL OBLIGATION concerning climate change and human survival on this planet- THAT SCIENTIST EXPLOIT ALL RESOURCES ON THE MOON. ("mining the moon" ABCTV)
As long as everyone changes the light globes and conserves power and water the frontiers of space and further reverse engineering of nature will resolve all the problems that this ancient pursuit has caused already.
It depends on the nature of the science, which to date and particularly since the 50's under the UN, has been deferred to a Heisenbergian stochastic anti realism- "its all about probabilities, statistics and relationships" -information systems analysts, theorists and modellers, applied mathematicians, economists, and engineers, and the presumption that the western mindset is THE NATURALLY EMERGING evolutionary endpoint of human potential- as if a dominator (MASTER SLAVE) model, non communicative gameplay ("fuck you sucker"- john nash) civilisation based on military defence and security, replete with its BINARY logic of US-THEM ;GOOD-EVIL; ON-OFF attitude forged from 17th Century DEISM- and NON SPAGYRIST ALCHEMY (eg COAL TAR CHEMISTRY) that rationalises EXPLOITATION OF ALL THAT IS as god's plan (?) where MEN can become superhero psychopaths like ALEXANDER and RULE THE WORLD under a signature of a ROYAL CHARTER and free licence to COLONISE (take it lying down? homoanus?) is not fully based on the MEDIATION OF INTELLIGENCE and the split between common knowledge and concealed knowledge- HENCE PROPAGANDA AND MIND CONTROL (oh that's right MYTHBUSTERS have debunked mind control;-) which is as ancient as AI, CYBERNETICS, LAW, KINGSHIP, MONOTHEISM and MONISM- and HISSTORY ITSELF.
WHOLENESS has never been able to be apprehended by this mindset, as this mindset is based on BOUNDARIES, DIVISION, CATEGORISATION, LINEAR TIME, SLAVERY and SECURITY. There are no boundaries in a cosmology of wholeness, and NO LICENCE TO DESTROY ANY PART OF THE WHOLE, as ALL THAT IS IN EXISTENCE is considered SACRED- be it mineral, vegetable, animal, natural person of the planet or citizen of the nation.
Indeed the first words of the UN charter is to develop PEACE and SECURITY. Peace through duress is not peace, and if there is one person enslaved- physically OR MENTALLY- then ALL ARE ENSLAVED.
In Australia and the broader fields of the Monsanto world, there is a presumption that GM constitutes no more meddling than grafting a tree or pruning a bush. Agriculturists laugh in the face of anyone who dares question GM. "It is the future, farmers have always deferred to the wisdom of the scientists" ("diference of opinion") and bio-engineers-

This is not bad in a FREE WORLD ( though a free world would not lead to mining and exploitation) unless the loop is closed, and the HYPONOMARKETEERS and SCIENCE COMMUNICATORS ALIKE who are brainwashing the "citizens" with MEMES that trigger them like puppets (Trance: from Magic to Technology - Wier; psyops 101, NLP 101) to do as their told.
Ralph Waldo Emerson who believed that the free market would resolve all issues, like PLATO he also believed in the COVERT CONTROL of the system through education and psychology, just as Bertrand Russell did, and maintaining DIFFERENCE, as without the extremes maintained by the elite (MAXWELL'S DAEMON?) the system would run down to equilibrium- and as equality demands that people are FREE and can think for themselves and are self empowered, and can therefore focus on goals and achieve anything they put their MINDS too, (business 101) and hence requires that the mind is DEPROGRAMMED from the CULTURAL TRANCE OF WESTERN ENTERPRISE ---- sacrifice nature and the duty of care on the pyre of the Bohemian Groove- for the cybernetic techy toys that MIMICS the NATURAL POORLY and will enhance ENTRAINMENT without the messy need for disciplines of meditation or qi gong, in order to HEAL? in order to ASSIST? certainly, maybe, sounds attractive, what's the flip side------in order to CONTROL the general population extremely easily.
