Video of COP OUT: Climate Camp in Trafalgar Square

Video of Climate Camp's occupation of Trafalgar Square to protest against the corporation-friendly 'solutions' to climate change that will be touted at the COP 15 Climate Conference in Copenhagen. Market solutions (ie scams) such as carbon offset schemes are a dangerous distraction from this 11th hour chance to prevent runaway climate change. The only effective solution is to decarbonise our economies as fast as possible and leave the rest of the planet's fossil fuel stockpiles in the ground. Everything else is lip gloss.

G20 Finance Ministers fail to agree on Climate Change Finance Package

G20 Finance ministers failed to reach agreement on the financing required for a global agreement to stave off catastrophic climate change, according to WWF Scotland. The Finance Ministers of the G20 countries were meeting in St Andrews, Scotland on 6-7 November.

Dr Richard Dixon, Director of WWF Scotland said: "The G20 Finance Ministers meeting turned out to be a mostly irrelevant sideshow on the way to the talks in Copenhagen in a months' time. Failure to come to agreement here is a major disappointment. Given that these are the people who run the biggest economies in the world it seems unlikely that they will manage to devote any serious time to the issue of climate finance before the start of the Copenhagen meeting."

UK: G20 protesters 'offered cash' by police to spy on environmental groups

[from The Guardian]

Fresh evidence has emerged of police efforts to recruit paid spies within environmental groups after the Guardian revealed that police in Scotland are running a network of hundreds of informants inside pressure groups.

Anti-nuclear protesters in Scotland said yesterday that military police had offered them cash in exchange for information.

One protester said he was offered money on top of his jobseeker's allowance - a move sanctioning benefit fraud - if he gave military police the names of people planning environmental action. One activist from Plane Stupid revealed that members had been given £20 by police.
