Sumatra: Indigenous villagers burned-out to make way for bogus "climate protection" plantation
Posted 12月 28th, 2008 by tribalscribalCategories:
The forced displacement of indigenous and forest-dependent communities to make
way for industrial tree plantations is on the rise. With the inclusion of
forests in the carbon market and the elimination of any reference to indigenous
rights from the UN's Reducing Emissions from Deforestation in Developing
Countries agreement that came out of the last UN Climate Convention in Poznan,
we can expect to see even more forced displacements--this time to supposedly
"protect" forests. [from Global Justice Ecology]
Dear friends,
We are writing over the Christmas season because we have just received reports

Five brave counterculture warriors don Santa Suits, sing anti-consumerist and anti-capitalist Xmas carols, and leaflet for more mindful attention to love, gifts, and catastrophic climate change – in Oxford Street, in the heart of the shopping district of Old London Town, on the busiest shopping day of the year: Sat 13 Dec 08.

I never thought I'd write an email like this. I never thought that members of the U.S. Climate Emergency Council staff would be spied on by the Maryland State Police as we peacefully and legally promote windmills and solar panels!!

START HERE
Saturday 22nd November 2008
11am to 5pm
A day of workshops to help us Act Local and Think Global.
An open public meeting hosted by OUDES : http://www.oudes.org
Come and meet a wide variety of people working and volunteering for Sustainable and Transition communities, mostly in South East England.
Share your experiences and plans for the future, and take the time to explore the issues Society must inevitably face, to deal with both the risks of Climate Change and the unfolding Energy Crisis.
In small groups, we will look at the chaos erupting in the Environmental, Energy and Economic spheres and try to make sense of their interconnectedness and the disconnects.
