Flat Earth NZ chapter reaches out to climate skeptics

We at the Flat Earth Society have spent so
many years out in the cold, shunned by Government, science and most of
society. But on Friday night a glimmer of hope appeared for us in the
form of the climate sceptic group, the NZ Climate Science Coalition.
They were hosting a talk by the Australian climate sceptic (and
stratigraphist which is about rock layering) Bob Carter, at the Royal
NZ Yacht Squadron in Auckland.

Evening Standard Promotes Fossil Fools Day

The Evening Standard's recent run-in with the press complaints commission (which can be viewed here http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2008/03/394299.html ), which regarded last years Climate Action Camp near Heathrow Airport, seems to have resulted in a remarkable volte-face with regards to climate activism. These photographs where taken of billboards around London on Fossil Fools day.

LATIN AMERICA: Nuclear Reborn

Diego Cevallos*

MEXICO CITY, Oct 3 (IPS/IFEJ) - Just 3.1 percent of Latin America's electricity comes from nuclear sources, but if expansion plans in Argentina, Brazil and Mexico succeed, that proportion could more than double in a decade -- much to the annoyance of environmentalists.

Carried by the global wave towards nuclear energy being driven by high petroleum prices, Brazil is proposing construction of the country's third reactor, while Argentina and Mexico will go from two to four nuclear energy plants each.

Brazil, one of the nine countries worldwide that enriches uranium -- the essential input for nuclear energy -- is trying to make expanded production viable. And Argentina is picking up enrichment efforts begun in the 1980s, but halted in 1992.

Part 1 of 2: Pat Michaels, Virginia "State Climatologist"? A critical perspective on the issues

The Washington Post ran an article on September 17 on the controversy
over whether Pat Michaels, long-time voice of the global warming
denial machine, was entitled to continue to identify himself as the
Virginia State Climatologist. Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine doesn’t want
Michaels appearing to speak for the state on global warming issues.
This guest contribution provides a critical perspective that goes
beyond what was developed in the Post’s coverage—about the legitimacy
of Michaels’ designation as state climatologist, about Michaels’

Pablum Fed Climate Change

There was an interesting opinion piece in the Vancouver Sun on June 8 discussing the interpretation of "GLOBAL WARMING".

It would seem as though the Science behind "Kyoto" has always been in question and there is every reason to dispute the idea that human contribution to green house gases are the main culprit in this debate. There are myths being perpetrated by both sides so it is difficult to wade through the debate to make an accurate personal assessment.

This is a good place to explore < a href="http://www.envirotruth.org/myths.cfm"> "MYTHS AND ENVIROTRUTH". Take a look and make up your own mind.

US Power Group Promoting Global Warming Skeptic

US: July 31, 2006

NEW YORK - A Colorado electricity cooperative is urging other power groups to support global warming skeptics and has donated US$100,000 to a climatologist who has labeled some of his colleagues "alarmists."

The Intermountain Rural Electric Association's general manager wrote in a letter to other energy cooperatives that it also helped raise contributions from others for Dr. Patrick Michaels, a climatologist at the University of Virginia and a fellow at the CATO Institute in Washington D.C.

Many scientists believe that global warming will lead to catastrophic consequences such as the flooding of low-lying nations and stronger hurricanes.
